I love the Alien movies. The whole knife thing with Bishop is pretty sweet. I do like that they added in Newt's Pappy being Hugger'ed and the whole sentry gun scene. The sentry guns simply add in the sheer amount of aliens they're facing. When Bishop is pretty pwnt the Alien Queen i had to laugh,

I can sign that just as its being said.

here in germany they showed like two different versions of that and after the first time seeing this scene I tried that myself with a kitchen knife... and I learned to switch to non-sharp objects.
And its a really cool thing to impress your fellow classmates ^^
Havent done that in years now though...

I think that's just part of the way the Aliens work, they remain in stasis until some goober takes a Sunday drive and comes across their area. I will usually forgive a far fetched element of a sci fi flick, especially when it involves facehuggers hehe. As far as the detailed history of the movies go, thanks much T Hawk, I do remember seeing the TV version with the sentry guns, I taped it and watched it over and over, but this final version was great.

I recently watched this version as well (um, the fourth I guess). I thought the additional scenes were cool and all, but was it just me or did it seem far fetched that Newt's mom and dad decided to take the kids for a good ol' fashioned Sunday drive around LV-246's surface? I mean, not exactly a hospitable environment to begin with. Not to mention the whole "giant alien spaceship in the middle of nowhere" thing.

There's actually 3 different extended versions of Aliens, making 4 versions total. There's the original theatrical version (non-extended), the extended theatrical version (some deleted scenes but only briefly showing the sentry guns), the extended TV version (which when aired had the full sentry gun scenes but few other deleted scenes), and then there is the fully extended version (with all the deleted scenes). At one point I had all versions, the first two I'd purchased on VHS, the second I'd recorded on VHS, and the last one I still have on Laser Disc and it has additions of running commentaries and a fantastic booklet showing the deleted scenes. If only my Laser Disc player hadn't died. Laser Discs typically had WAY more commentary then you ever find on DVDs, particularly with Aliens and the original Star Wars Trilogy.
